KTS Webinar #59: The Vowel Jam

July 14 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am

July 14 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am

Monday, July 14th 10:00am PDT/ 1pm EDT/ 6pm BST

In contrast to the clear-cut “recipes” of the consonant chart—“Tip of tongue taps alveolar ridge,” for example—the precise realization of target phthongs on the vowel chart often proves more elusive (finding oneself in a jam, perhaps?). How can we tune our ears and mouths to the subtle shifts between, say, cupping the tongue for [ɜ] versus [ʌ]?

Like a musical jam session, The Vowel Jam is a space to play, explore, and refine. In a relaxed, creative, and collaborative environment, we’ll engage in exercises designed to sharpen our perception and production of vowel sounds. Through play, you’ll strengthen the connection between your ear (the vowel you hear) and your mouth (the vowel you make), building greater precision and confidence as you navigate the vowel chart for clients and students.

Tickets for this webinar are $10. Registration will close 12 hours prior to the event and participants will then receive Zoom link information. All registrants will also receive the recording after the meeting has ended and been processed.
