Certified Teacher Tyler Seiple is launching a new series of Knight-Thompson Speechwork workshops for performers and public speakers in the Los Angeles area (in association with Stuart Rogers’ Studios). This initial two-day workshop will focus on understanding what accents are and the skills needed to develop them. With eight hours of discussion, exercises, and context, students will walk away with an understanding of the muscles that shape speech, the patterns that make up accents, and the tools they need to adopt any accent. It will also introduce a more helpful, KTS-based approach to the idea of “Accent Reduction,” getting to the same result without shame or guilt.
Upon completion of Building the Accent Skill, students will be invited to take short, half-day classes in a wide (and expanding) variety of accents. Using the foundation of Building the Accent Skill, students will be able to break down and integrate target accents in less time and with a clear process. These accent-specific classes will be offered throughout 2020, and will include:
- Accents of London
- So-Called General American
- The American South
- The American Northeast
- North of England
- Australia & New Zealand
- Eastern Europe & Russia
With more Modules in development, the opportunities afforded by Building the Accent Skill will continue to expand.
