SUMMARY:PRONUNCIATION INTENSIVE #2
DESCRIPTION:A Three-Day Online Intensive in Lexical Sets\nA 4P Workshop\nWith KTS Teachers Siobhan Doherty & Tyler Seiple\nFebruary 4th-6th\, 2022\, 8:00am-3:00pm Pacific Time. \nThere will be a daily meal break from 11:00am to 12:00pm Pacific. \nThe Pronunciation Intensive is an exploration of the philosophy\, structure\, and usage of J.C. Wells’ lexical sets within the context of Knight-Thompson Speechwork. Open to anyone who has taken Experiencing Accents\, this workshop is designed to further familiarize participants with the application of the lexical sets to accent work and to tackle ambiguities around their use through play\, practice\, and community skill-building. Participants of all experience levels are welcome\, from those seeking to expand their teaching strategies as well as those wanting to deepen their own understanding of how to use the lexical sets. \nThis course will be online only. All documents and audio materials will be shared through an online platform. All sessions will be recorded and shared with participants. \n\nEarly Bird Registration at $350 USD is available through December 14th\, 2021. The full registration fee is $400 USD. \nPlease note that Experiencing Accents is a prerequisite for this workshop. \n\nDeadlines\n\nIn order to plan effectively for these workshops\, it’s important to have a clear sense of the commitment of potential participants. For that reason we ask for a deposit of $100 USD to secure your place in the workshop. This is due six weeks prior to the start of the workshop\, on December 24th\, 2021. The full payment is due three weeks prior to the start of the workshop\, on January 14th\, 2022. If your plans change\, and you are unable to attend\, we will refund any payment less $75 USD if you inform us by January 21st\, 2022. After that date\, however\, no refunds are possible. Please plan accordingly.

This eight-hour workshop focuses on understanding what accents are and the skills needed to develop them. With a tailored blend of discussion\, exercises\, and context-building\, students walk away with an understanding of the muscles that shape speech\, the patterns that make up accents\, and the tools they need to adopt any accent. It also introduces a more helpful\, KTS-based approach to the idea of “Accent Reduction\,” getting to the same result without shame or guilt. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited. She coaches accents and dialects through her company\, Speaking of Accents. As a performer\, Siobhan has worked with Utah Shakespeare Festival\, South Coast Rep\, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival\, PCPA\, Loose Canon Collective\, and Berkeley Repertory Theater. Siobhan has produced numerous commercials\, industrials\, and award-winning webseries. As a director\, Siobhan works in theater and film exploring perceptions of gender through comedy\, movement\, and voice. Recent work includes The Boatman\, Metamorphoses\, Sarah Ruhl’s adaptation of Orlando\, and the digital sketch team DAME Sketch Comedy. Siobhan is a certified teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork\, and she holds a BA in Theater and Performance Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKatie Cunningham (she/her) is a certified teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork and an Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville. As an actor\, she has appeared on a host of stages in New York and across the country as well as in film and television. Recent voice\, text\, and dialect coaching includes River & Rail Theatre; Southwest Shakespeare Company; and multiple productions at Clarence Brown Theatre. Her work has been published in the Voice and Speech Review\, The Conversation\, and the International Dialects of English Archive. In addition to a graduate certificate in vocology from the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at Lamar University\, Katie holds an M.F.A. in Acting from Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.
