Open to anyone who has taken Experiencing Accents\, this workshop is designed to increase possibilities for perceiving\, describing\, and performing the various components of speech prosody\, including stress\, syllabification\, pitch\, duration\, and connectivity. We’ll explore the potential applications of these skills to English in an introductory way\, while leaving plenty of room for integration into inhabiting any variety of human communication. Participants of all experience levels are welcome\, as we’ll be focusing our work on the basics of prosody through play\, curiosity\, and experimentation. \nThis course will be online only. All documents and audio materials will be shared through an online platform. His professional practice focuses on accent coaching/design\, with numerous credits on award-winning theatre\, television and film productions\, including designing the Belter accent for Prime Video’s “The Expanse.” He has presented frequently at the annual VASTA conference and published articles and reviews in the Voice and Speech Review. He was the co-host (with Phil Thompson) of “Glossonomia: Conversations on the Sounds of Speech.” His research interests lie in the pedagogy of accent training for diverse populations. He just completed a 1 year sabbatical\, and is working on an Open Educational Resource (aka “book”) on using Wells’ Lexical Sets for Accents. \nElisa Gonzales (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Acting at UMass Amherst\, where she teaches acting\, voice\, speech\, and dialects. As a performer\, Elisa’s work has been seen at the New York International Fringe Festival\, the Nuyorican Poets Café\, San Diego Repertory Theatre\, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company\, the La Jolla Playhouse\, Arizona State University\, and the Tempe History Museum. Elisa is a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework\, and a candidate for certification in Knight-Thompson Speechwork. Elisa has published peer-reviewed articles in the Voice and Speech Review\, and has regularly presented her scholarship at national and international conferences. Her creative activity and research focuses on embodied storytelling\, with a specific focus on stories that live at the intersection of Latinx/Chicana identity\, history\, voice\, and memory. Elisa holds a BFA in Acting from Emerson College and an MFA in Theatre Performance from Arizona State University. She is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association\, VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association)\, and ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education). \nTracie Morris (she/her) is writer/editor of 8 books and is a poet\, professor\, performer\, voice teacher and theorist. She holds an MFA in poetry from CUNY Hunter College\, a PhD in Performance Studies from New York University\, and studied British Acting technique at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her most recent poetry collection is Hard Kore/Per-form: Poems of Mythos and Place\, Joca Seria\, 2017 (English with French translation). Tracie became an Atlantic Center for the Arts Master Artist in 2018; that year she also served as the 2018-2019 Woodberry Poetry Room Creative Fellow at Harvard University. DESCRIPTION:Knight-Thompson Speechwork is pleased to announce we will be offering a three-week Teacher Certification program in Knight-Thompson Speechwork in the summer of 2021\, July 19-August 6\, taught by Co-Directors Phil Thompson & Andrea Caban. The program will be held online. Sessions will take place five days a week\, Monday through Friday\, except the final week which may end on Saturday the 7th\, depending on cohort size. The training day will begin at 2pm BST and end at approximately 9:30pm. Prior to the start of the program on July 19th\, there will be 3-4 required webinars and various deliverables\, to be scheduled\, starting on or around June 1\, 2020.\n\nFor a time zone converter\, visit here.\nProgram Goals\nThe purpose of the Certification is to make sure that its participants possess: \n\n\nA thorough understanding of the Knight-Thompson approach to speech training.\nA thorough knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet and an ability to use it effectively in teaching.\nA thorough understanding of the Knight-Thompson approach to the methodology of accent training.\nAn ability to productively use research resources for accent acquisition\, as well as efficiently learn and effectively model new accents.\nA demonstrated ability to teach this material effectively and with full understanding.\nA demonstrated ability to use this approach creatively in teaching and coaching.\n\n\n  \nThe emphasis in the Certification program will be on individual development\, and all participants will receive substantial individual attention and mentoring. Kristi is an active member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA)\, serving on the Board of Directors (2018 – 2021). She is an Equity actor and works regularly as a performer in Dallas\, Texas. Recent credits include Alabaster by Audrey Cefaly at Kitchen Dog Theater\, Red Chariot by Gordon Dahlquist at Undermain Theatre\, and so go the ghosts of mexico\, part 3\, by Matthew Paul Olmos at Undermain Theatre. Previous faculty appointments include Yale Summer Conservatory for Actors\, Penn State University\, Brooklyn College/CUNY\, and Long Island University/Post. \nErik Singer is a dialect coach for film and television. Recent work includes Terminator: Dark Fate\, Barry Levinson’s Harry Haft\, starring Ben Foster\, Disney’s live-action Mulan\, Sia’s debut feature Music\, and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.
