DESCRIPTION:A Two-Day Online Exploration in Prosody\nA 4P Workshop\nWith Master Teacher Tyler Seiple\nFebruary 17th-18th\, 2024\, 8:00am-3:00pm Pacific Time. \nThere will be a daily meal break from 11:00am to 12:00pm Pacific. \nBuilding off the recent publication of Experiencing Accents\, the Prosody Workshop is an exploration of the descriptive and experiential skills of prosodic awareness and embodiment\, within the context of Knight-Thompson Speechwork. Open to anyone who has taken Experiencing Accents\, this workshop is designed to increase possibilities for perceiving\, describing\, and performing the various components of speech prosody\, including stress\, syllabification\, pitch\, duration\, and connectivity. We’ll explore the potential applications of these skills to English in an introductory way\, while leaving plenty of room for integration into inhabiting any variety of human communication. Participants of all experience levels are welcome\, as we’ll be focusing our work on the basics of prosody through play\, curiosity\, and experimentation. \nThis course will be online only. All documents and audio materials will be shared through an online platform. All sessions will be recorded and shared with participants. \n\nEarly Bird Registration ($250 USD) is available through February 7th\, 2024. The full registration fee is $275 USD. \nPlease note that Experiencing Accents is a prerequisite for this workshop. \n\nDeadlines\n\nThe full payment is due two weeks prior to the start of the workshop\, on February 10th\, 2024. If your plans change\, and you are unable to attend\, we will refund any payment less $75 USD if you inform us by February 10th\, 2024. After that date\, however\, no refunds are possible. We will take a brief tour of the history of KTS\, introduce some of the principles of the teaching philosophy\, and explore the famous 4 P’s. Open to anyone who has taken Experiencing Accents\, this workshop is designed to further familiarize participants with the identification of habitual configurations and movements of vocal tract muscles within accents and the integration of those habitual configurations and movements into accent work through play\, practice\, and community skill-building. Participants of all experience levels are welcome\, from those seeking to expand their teaching strategies as well as those wanting to deepen their own understanding of how to use posture in accent performance. \nThis course will be online only. All documents and audio materials will be shared through an online platform. All sessions will be recorded and shared with participants. \n\nThe full registration fee is $400 USD. \nPlease note that the Phonetics Intensive is a prerequisite for this workshop. \n\nDeadlines\n\nIn order to plan effectively for these workshops\, it’s important to have a clear sense of the commitment of potential participants. For that reason we ask for a deposit of $100 USD to secure your place in the workshop. This is due six weeks prior to the start of the workshop\, on May 27th\, 2022.
